Monday, July 14 we took the ferry into Seattle with plans to see the city, but he weather was so beautiful and not much wind we decided to go to the Tillacom village on Blake Island.

This was a ferry ride and lunch Northwest Indian style. They greeted us with clams boiled in water, butter and garlic. We crushed the shells on the walkways. Then came a buffet of salad, boiled new potatoes, wild rice

and salmon baked on cedar pins around the coals.

We were seated in a long house and the Indians danced various dances for us.

It was quite a production in native costumes. Olivia would have liked to have had one of their blankets for $55, but it doesn’t go with our décor. We thought of Dr. Jon a lot at this event and wonder if he has been here. It would be perfect for him to see.

After the show the Indians posed for photos and

Explained the art of preparing the salmon.

By the time we arrived back in Seattle it was time to catch the ferry back to Bainbridge Island.

We had some unusual neighbors. They had moved in the night before with a new trailer and loaded it from their cars. They said they had just sold their house planning to move east. The man had 3 months to retirement, she was going to move to their mountain home and he was going to live in the trailer until he retired from the sherrif's dept. She was a teacher. They had a two year old precious little girl and was his second marriage child and the mother died in childbirth. This was his third marriage. Just before retiring that night Fred noticed a policeman and woman knocking on the neighbor's door. He came out and they talked for quite a while, so we went to bed. When Olivia got up the next morning the police were locking the trailer. The couple were not there. The policewoman took the cute little puppy and the woman's car and they both drove off. We asked around including the camp host and no one knew the story. ??????????

Tuesday, July 15 we again took the ferry into Seattle and went directly to the Pioneer area of the city for the Underground Seattle tour. We learned a lot about the history of the city and how it was rebuilt over the old one and

walked on the old sidewalks all underground the present day streets.

The guide was very funny and entertaining.

Then we walked eight blooks to Pike Place Market, which is several blocks long and full of

Seafood, Flowers,

And fruits & veggies.

When we arrived at Ivar’s Seafood on the harbor we waited for 3:00 o’clock and happy hour for their meal prices. We had chowder, oyster shooters and fish and chips. That was a bargain at half price and we were stuffed. We watched children of all ages out the windows feeding sea gulls their left over French fries.

We also noticed a fire department dummy hanging from the dock. We were told they used it for practice and we thought of David Hudgins and the Duncanville Fire Department.

Back at the trailer we borrowed electricity at the group shelter for our internet service and walked the beach. This is probably our last chance for beaches and good seafood on this trip.

Wednesday, July 16 we were up at 6:00 am to hook up and drive to Port Townsend to drive onto this ferry and leave the peninsulas of western Washington. We drove through fields of truck farming, Christmas Tree farms, berry farms with glimpses of Mt. Baker into Maple Falls to Silver Lake Campground, which is a county park nestled in the trees and close to Canada. We made a mad dash to Nooksack to receive our mail. This time it had arrived this morning. Perfect timing!

Thursday, July 17 we took the day to do our laundry and clean house. We thought it was a day of rest, but were we wrong! Pooped? You bet. We are ready to travel again.
