HarringtonTravels, Western US and Canada

From the Traveling Harrington’s. Note:
Dear Friends,
Well, this is the end of day 2 of traveling, rearranging, fixin and resting. After 5 days of non stop preparation, when we arrived at Aldersgate Enrichment Center in Early (yes Joe & Judy we thought of you when we drove through Early) at 3 PM Thursday, March 13, 2008 we were exhausted.
We signed in at the office and a NOMAD took us to their camp area.

Time for explanations:
Aldersgate is a place for mentally handicapped adults to live and work. It is sponsored by the United Methodist Church. They live in group homes and work in large workshops building beautify wood swings, chairs, tool boxes and pallets. The lumber is piled high and so are the pallets. We attended their devotional this morning and their choir sang 2 songs, one gave a devotional, then asked for prayer requests. About half of them asked for prayers for their families and friends. They were all so happy. They were friendly and told us about recycling and one whispered to Fred that today was Friday! We were very impressed. Angie, we requested a packet be mailed to us and Anna Kay would probably like to see it.
NOMADS, NOMADS On a Mission Active in Divine Service.
Retired people

Enjoy using their skills in service to others.
They sign up for missions all over the US and stay at that location for 3 weeks, and camp at that location. They work 4 days a week and off Fri, Sat & Sunday.
This is something we might enjoy doing after we have seen the USA. The Childress’s are currently in Ft Stockton as NOMADS helping the 1st Methodist Church their.

When we left Early we traveled down HWY 67 to Santa Anna and then to Coleman. Olivia has mineral rights there and we checked on it and filed another deed at the court house. Then to the first hardware store.
After leaving Coleman we went to the LoWake Steak House in the thriving town of LoWake. It is the only thing there in the middle of stripped cotton fields. We first learned of LoWake from Sunday school & camping friends in Duncanville. We were tempted to get the all you could eat KC strip for 2, but were not hungry enough. The onion rings and chicken fried steak were delicious. If you ever go this way be sure to turn off the highway and visit this restaurant.

We had intended to drive to Ft Stockton today, but the head wind was about 50 MPH and when we reached San Angelo we decided to stop at San Angelo State park. Olivia took a nap and Fred fixed things. About 6 o’clock we went into town and hit Lowes and Home Depot. We also spotted a Discount Tire place that had just closed. Fred wants to check the air pressure in the Suburban tires and we will do that in the morning, on our way to see the Childresses.
